I always loved diesels and fast things from a young age. I always wanted a diesel but didn't know anything about them. Just after I turned 19 a 2008 Dodge Ram slt 3500 mega with a 6.7 cummins caught my eyes at the dealership. I decided I had to have it after test driving and on December 21st 2012 I drove it home with only 22k miles on it.
The truck was stock other then 18in rim with 33's on them and a two inch leveling kit up front. As far as performance there was a banks filter back exhaust along with there intake. I didn't know much about the truck but I knew the emissions needed to go so I bought a h&s mini maxx, sinister egr delete and a flowpro 5 inch turbo back exhaust and installed them January of 2013.
For a couple of years I used it as a work truck in the summers and to haul the sleds in the winter and racked up 60 thousand miles until the stock transmission decided to go shortly after I made the switch to efi live with tunes from atp trucks.
Then the truck sat till I saved up enough money for a stage 4 ats transmission and installed it July of 2014. Then I was hooked I had a transmission that could hold the power and I wanted more.
I was then introduced to Gordon at innovative diesel who would be tuning the truck with the new modifications coming. I decided to go with a big single billet s472/87/1.10 second gen swap from stainless diesel.
Shortly after I swapped out my valve springs and head studs with some Hamilton 103 valve springs and arp 625 head studs. I realized I couldn't get traction with the new turbo so I bought some bmf 20 inch rims and wrapped nitto 420's around them to get the new power to the ground.
I drove the truck for about 8 months with this setup till I could afford the fuel side of my build for the truck. I then installed a air dog 200 along with a fleece coolant bypas and shortly after ordered a ats twin cp3 kit along with some 100% over injectors from exergy. I then installed the ats pumps with a fleece performance fuel distribution block and made my own lines to feed the ats kit and swapped out the controller for a fish tuning controller. I then installed my csp5 switch along with the new tunes from innovative diesel. I also swapped out my exhaust for a 8in soflo stack.
After a couple of months of trouble shooting and data logging I got the truck running good and smooth after having some trouble with the fuel system maybe to good because on my first wide open run I took out my ats stage 4 transmission with 4K miles on it. I was then unsure what I wanted to do with the build until I talked to Devon the transmission guy who led me in the right direction.
I then saved up all summer two start building a transmission that could hold the power and take the abuse at the track. I decided to swap out the 68rfe with a 48re built by Devon the transmission guy with a manual valve body and a tci black out shifter.
While waiting for the transmission to get built and installed I installed iss pro gauges and some caltracs. I was tired of the stack and the drone from it so I went with a black finished 4in Mbrp exhaust with a muffler. I then swapped out the s472 for a fleece performance s475 to try and get a little more out of the truck.
I hope to be at the track for the 2016 race season as much as work will let me and push my truck as far as I can with the big single I have before I make the big switch to twins.
My goals aren't to be faster or better then anyone or beat records but to help push other builders farther and help progress this sport in Alaska trying to reach my own goals I have set on the way and having fun doing it.
