so inthe past 6 months i have gotten hundreds of questions about many things from many people. first thing is whatever works for me doesnt allways work for the next guy .if u dont like my ideas and think ur second cousins double first half, twice removed brother in law in oklahoma is faster, bigger, better more power too u i dont care .we need more people at the race track. people only get better through competition. so if ur truck is really fast ,kinda fast ,or just plain jain stock, come out to the track . we need to make our own class ,like the rest of the lower 48.quit bein a dumbass on the highway. come prove ur truck has balls on the track .so with all that said the number 1 question i get is transmission life expectancy. that is a loaded question.there is no answer for that. cause every one uses there trucks for different puposes. only light i can shed is race purpose trans. do not believe the hype, is the biggest key advice there is. transmissions do not last at high hp levels being thrashed at the race track. the pros rebuild there units almost every weekend. trust me ive seen it . i goto to several events throughout the year and deal with these people alot. dont belive the magazine hype that o i got a 1200 hp daily driver and its holding up for 100,xxxmiles. when u beat on a tranny u can expect anywhere from 10 to 30 passes at a drag strip. daily driving mixed in maybe more. iam speaking from a strictley racing standpoint.i have 2 trans . 3 converters. i get about 15 to 20 runs out of my converters and about 25 out of the trans . u cannot roast the converters at every pass and expect them to hold up.so believe what u will and do what u will.spooling for 20 seconds then launching at 40+ psi does not hold up forever. there is alot of time and effort that goes into makin stuff last and work and people seem to think its easy cause the magazines say so.i change oil after every event i goto. i have thousands of hours of maintenace.same with motor oil. u cannot make lots of power consistantley and RELIABLY on crap over the autozone counter.daily driving and competition r 2 different things. mixing them is not the same so u cannot expect the same results .i get alot of people asking me if they can doboth, mostly for weekend warriors and drive to work on monday morning.id say maybe, but ur a ticking time bomb eventually.im not tryin to derive some soon to be race track warriors iamjust sayin racing is expensive, be preparred.2nd major question i get is turbos. how big ,whynot 2?there also is no answer to that. depends on what u wanna do. there r guys makin over 3k hp on 1 turbo. again dont belive the magazine hype its been goin on for 10 years. u dont need 6 turbos to make power . does it help spoolability and driveability ? u bet. but power is power wether there is 1 or 10 chargers.i like one for simplicity and weight. and since i change converters so much il sacrifce the spoolup and longevitty of the converterfor that. but dont think cause they have twins or tripples they make lots of power . some of the worst running engines ive seen r twins or tripples that r not setup right or wastegated right.so in conclusiion i say all this not to derive anyone from racing i hope many come and enjoy one of the greatest feelings in the world of spanking a $100k race car at the track with a tank designed for pulling trailers. just shed some truth on what really happens in the garages after hrs. tons of work. tons of maintenance and lots of oil changes.be informed from people who actualy do it every day and for a living. dont belive the crap. u can have unlimited hp daily driver. soon as u race it or sled pull it, u can start the clock on when its gonna blow eventually. and granted this is for race ,and lots of hp.less hp and softer launches with less converter flashing will result in longer lifespans. u cannot beat on it and expect it to live like a regular vehicle.HAPPY SPOOLIN!
